Color conversion

There are two main ways to find a color that is close enough to required one.
  • The 1st way is using special tables that show relationship between the colors; there are many web sources with paint-conversion tables. Example of such table you can see below.
  • The 2nd way is finding alternative color by RGB or CMYK. Every color is a point in 3D RGB space (or in 4D CMYK space). Finding alternative paints is finding the paints, that are represented by points located near the point that corresponds to required paint. Click here read more

Finding similar paints in "Color Space"

Every color can be represented by corresponding point in "colorspace"; if the distance between two "color points" is small enough the colors seem similar.

PaintAssistant program uses this way to find paints that are similar to required one. The porgram calculates "distances" between each color in the database and the color we're looking for; then program selects the "top colors" trying to minimize these "distances"; thus if even there isn't absolutelly identical alternative paint, the program returns the colors that are close enough to required paint or standard.

One more strong side of this method: we can find similar coloirs also for mixts of the paints and take in account scale lighting.

If the ideal solution can not be found the method helps to find the optimal one. The program shows "percentage of similarity" for each found color; 100% means that required and alternative colors are identical.
